In July 2014, our family lost our beloved matriarch, Kathleen Straky, from complications resulting from a heart attack in 2012 and multiple in-hospital borne infections contracted during an intense 2 ½ year period within the Windsor-Essex hospitals system.
Our healthcare system saved Kathleen’s life when she suffered a heart attack in 2012, but the same system that performed wonders in that moment failed to protect her afterward from the countless infections plaguing our outdated healthcare facilities. After dozens of trips to and from hospitals, she finally lost her battle to those ongoing series of life-threatening hospital-borne infections.
Had our healthcare workers had the resources they needed, with modern medical facilities and procedures in place for the delivery of modern-day healthcare techniques, the circumstances and outcome of Kathleen’s story would have been more positive.
It is essential that the people of Windsor-Essex have access to reliable medical facilities to receive top-notch healthcare to avoid a tragic result like Kathleen’s. While we have patched up the crumbling infrastructure of our existing facilities over the years, it has become increasingly difficult to provide even basic needs for our most vulnerable citizens and loved ones.
We need five-star medical facilities and procedures to limit the spread of in-hospital infections so our most vulnerable can receive proper medical attention in a safe and controlled environment.
